Is a home business right for you?
Are you one of the many people who dream of being their own boss? Are you tired of giving up your weekends for someone else's dream? Have you seriously considered the advantages (and disadvantages) of working for yourself? Lots of people dream of a home business but not many think about the sacrifices they will have to make to realize their dreams. Don't make this mistake yourself!
Home business ownership must be approached with your eyes wide open. Let's look at some of the important considerations of being self employeed. Ask yourself, and more importantly - answer openly and honestly, these questions:
1) Are you the type of person who enjoys frequent social interaction in the workplace? If so, then home business ownership may not be the right decision for you.
2) Are you content to work independently? Can you sit alone in front of a computer or talk only to customers? Are you comfortable with your own company, not needing dozens of coworkers around? If this describes you, then you might have what it takes to succeed as a home business owner.
Self-motivation is the number one key to success in a home-based business, followed closely by great organizational skills. Keep in mind, being your own boss means telling yourself what needs to be done and the time frame for accomplishing it! Most likely you’ll also be acting as your own personal assistant, so that means accurate record keeping is a must. Developing marketing skills to in bring customers so you can earn a living is also something you'll be doing on your own.
Being your own boss means that your level of success depends almost entirely on the time and effort you are willing to put into your business. Your motivation, organizational and marketing skills will be put into practice on your journey from employee to being your own boss. And, just like everything else you have ever learned in life, as you practice these new skills, they will improve dramatically. And, your drive and determination will be reinforced as your income continues to build.
Does this all sound intimidating and like too much work? Or maybe you're just feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start? I know those feelings, too, along with the frustration of lots of time consuming (and expensive!) trial and error. Don't worry, help has arrived!
Let's start at the beginning . . .
